Inaugural Ecotourism Festival "Aransas Birthdays" Draws Hundreds
The first annual Aransas Birthdays celebration, held in April, successfully positioned Aransas County as a rising destination for ecotourism, organizers told commissioners Tuesday.
Aransas Pathways Coordinator Leah Medado reported that the event, which focused on spring migration and the "pillars" of birding, kayaking, and trails, saw over 200 in-person participants. The festival included bird banding demonstrations, heritage bus tours, and a conservation talk by the International Crane Foundation.
Medado noted that the event’s success has already garnered international attention, with Aransas Pathways receiving one of only five international passes to attend a major women-in-travel summit in Tennessee. Looking ahead, the program aims to expand outreach to "responsible tourists" who support community conservation efforts.
