Aransas County Receives Clean Audit for 2025 Fiscal Year

Aransas County officials received a clean audit for the 2025 fiscal year during a special meeting, with independent auditors reporting no material issues in the county’s financial statements.

Michelle Blacklock of Crowe LLP presented the annual financial report, stating the county earned an “unmodified opinion,” the highest level of assurance auditors can provide.

“This is what we consider a clean opinion,” Blacklock told commissioners.

The report showed the county ended 2025 with approximately $161 million in total assets and about $30 million in liabilities, resulting in a net position of roughly $108 million.

The county’s general fund balance stood at $2.6 million, a slight decrease of less than 1% from the previous year. Auditors noted that the balance represents about 11.3% of annual expenditures.

Blacklock said auditors found no material misstatements and no significant issues involving management, internal controls, or compliance. Two minor uncorrected items, related to revenue recognition and a roughly $10,000 accrual, were deemed not significant.

Auditors also confirmed their independence while assisting the county with financial statement preparation, in accordance with professional standards.

Commissioners praised both auditors and county staff for improving the audit timeline compared to the previous year, when results were delivered close to the deadline.

A separate “single audit,” required due to more than $1 million in federal and state grant expenditures, is expected to be completed by the end of July.
