Aransas County will participate in a new state pilot program aimed at streamlining mobile food vendor regulations. Starting July 1, the Texas Department of State Health Services will take over permitting for mobile units, but the county will continue to conduct on-site inspections.

Under the terms of the interlocal contract, the state will reimburse the county for inspection services based on the mobile unit's class. Local health officials recommended the program to ensure that food trucks operating in the county meet safety standards despite the shift to statewide permitting. The contract is set to run through August 2025.
