Aransas County Approves 2027 Budget, Sets 2026 Tax Rate

September 15, 20261 min read

The Aransas County Commissioners Court unanimously approved the county’s fiscal year 2027 budget Monday and adopted a 2026 property tax rate of $0.381634 per $100 of taxable valuation.

The approved budget is expected to generate $56,728 more in total property tax revenue than the prior year’s budget, a 2.46% increase. New property added to the county’s tax rolls is projected to account for $447,306 in tax revenue.

County Judge Ray Garza said the budget uses a portion of the county’s unrestricted reserves to balance projected revenues and expenditures. However, he noted that the county has historically spent less than its adopted budget, which could reduce or eliminate the need to use reserve funds.

Under Resolution R-27-2026, the county will assess taxes at 100% of property value and distribute the tax rate among four funds:

  • Maintenance and Operations Fund: $0.293172 per $100 valuation.

  • Interest and Sinking Fund: $0.037517 per $100 valuation.

  • Farm-to-Market Road/Flood Control Maintenance and Operations Fund: $0.045171 per $100 valuation. Of that amount, 83% will support Road and Bridge maintenance and operations, while 17% will support Flood Control maintenance and operations.

  • Farm-to-Market Road/Flood Control Interest and Sinking Fund: $0.005774 per $100 valuation.

Together, the four components establish the county’s total 2026 tax rate at $0.381634 per $100 of valuation.
