Parks Improvements Under Consideration

May 13, 20261 min read

Council gave direction to staff to develop more detailed cost estimates and tax-rate impact information for possible improvements at Memorial Park. No projects were approved.

Staff presented preliminary options that could be funded using roughly $800,000 in freed-up debt service capacity. Those concepts included:

  • New playground equipment (tower-style and smaller units)

  • Pickleball courts

  • Baseball, softball, and soccer field renovations

  • A possible community Christmas tree installation

Officials were instructed to refine the numbers and return with clear information showing the effect on the average taxpayer’s bill. Council indicated they would only consider moving forward with park projects if the overall tax rate remains lower than the current year’s rate.

Staff will return with refined numbers, impact statements for average taxpayers, and ordinance language ahead of upcoming meetings, including a June 9 work session and June 23 HOT funds discussion.
