District Moves Forward with Plans to Rebuild Rockport Harbor Tackle Shop

The Aransas County Navigation District authorized initial engineering design work for rebuilding the tackle shop at Rockport Harbor.

Commissioners directed staff to seek a proposal from Winshore Engineering for preliminary design plans with a cost not to exceed $5,000. If the estimate stays within that limit, the district will consider full bidding for construction later.

The project has been under discussion for several months. Officials said detailed plans are needed before soliciting construction bids. The existing structure requires replacement as part of harbor improvements.

Texas Maritime Museum Lease Extension Postponed

The Aransas County Navigation District postponed action on a long-term lease extension for the Texas Maritime Museum after museum officials requested more time to finalize site planning.

Museum representatives told commissioners they are developing a more compact expansion plan to address space shortages for staff, education programs, and exhibits. The current lease is set to expire, and officials are seeking stability for future development on the site.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for May 18.
