Commissioners Approve Healthcare Oversight Shifts and Cybersecurity Training

Aransas County commissioners approved a series of administrative changes this week, including transferring the oversight of the indigent healthcare program. The program’s administrative management will move from the county treasurer’s office to the office of the county judge to align with similar structures in other Texas counties. The program reported spending over $90,000 in the last month due to several high-cost medical cases involving both inmates and local clients.

In other actions, the court renewed a one-year contract for inmate medical services with Marpe IMA, Inc., noting that the provider has successfully reduced emergency room visits by treating injuries on-site. The county also authorized mandatory cybersecurity training for approximately 250 employees for $5 per person. Financial approvals included the standard accounts payable and a $126,607 change order for the Aransas County Community Building project to settle outstanding subcontractor invoices following an executive session.
