A Message From Walter Perry

Welcome to The Rockport Pirate!

I’m Walter Perry, and together, with my wife Spring, I founded this independent digital news platform dedicated to serving Rockport, Fulton, and all of Aransas County.

I fell in love with writing at an early age. That passion led me to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing and MBA from Texas A&M University-San Antonio, where I deepened my appreciation for clear, honest communication and real community leadership. Right now I’m working toward my PhD in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University because I believe strong, ethical leadership isn’t just something you study; it’s something you live every single day.

My heart has always been in public service. Years ago I ran for office in San Antonio, knocking on doors, listening to neighbors, and fighting hard for the issues that mattered most to everyday people. That experience taught me how much one voice can matter when it’s rooted in genuine care for a community. When life brought us to the Texas coast, I knew I had found the place I wanted to pour that same energy into.

After living in Rockport for a few years, I recognized the need for our community to have a strong, independent voice focused on the stories that truly matter. Rockport is a special gem for fishing and for community-minded people who are always willing to help each other out. That spirit of caring and togetherness is exactly what I strive to celebrate and highlight through my writing.

Every day I get to wake up and do work that feels meaningful. I get to help unbury the stories that make our community special, and I couldn’t be more grateful to do it alongside my wife and all of you.

That’s the story behind The Rockport Pirate. Thanks for being part of it.

Sincerely,

Walt P.
